About Abam

Hello, I am Abam

Early in my career as an employment litigator, I was negotiating a settlement in a tough matter when it occurred to me to ask the plaintiff: “What do you really want from this settlement?” Up to that point, the plaintiff had turned down all offers. “An apology,” the plaintiff said calmly. “It would acknowledge that something happened to me; that I’m not invisible and that someone heard me. After 20 years of service, I want to be acknowledged. Money won’t do that for me.”

Less than an hour later, mediation was over. The employee walked away with only attorneys’ fees, lost wages and costs. And a heartfelt apology from the company representative who was in the room. I never forgot the powerful lesson.

I created the Belonging Quotient to help leaders, teams, organizations and individuals create spaces where their people feel seen, heard, valued and respected. Because I understood then and since that when people feel those things, they feel a sense of belonging. And when people feel a sense of belonging, they are more engaged, inclusive, productive, healthier, and they perform better.

I believe that belonging is the most effective tool for human connection, culture transformation and business growth that we are overlooking. My mission is to change that by raising your Belonging Quotient to help you cultivate a space where your people feel seen, heard, valued and respected, so they’re empower to be their best, do their best, and give their best.
